Introduction to Fin Fan Coolers

A fin fan cooler, also known as an air cooler, uses air as the cooling medium to cool or condense various hot fluids flowing through its tubes.

Fin fan coolers are suitable for cooling and condensation systems in industries such as oil refineries, petrochemical plants, metallurgy, power plants, and power plants. Compared to water cooling systems, they offer advantages such as water conservation, reduced environmental pollution, lower investment, ease of operation, lower operating and maintenance costs, and longer service life.

Fin Fan Air Cooled Finned Tube Heat Exchangers

A fin fan cooler mainly consists of tube bundles, fans, frames, and louvers. The tube bundle is the core of the air cooler, possessing its own independent structure and can be fully assembled onto the air cooler frame. The tube bundle comprises finned tubes, tube boxes, and frames (side beams and cross beams, etc., load-bearing components).

Basic parameters of the tube bundle include tube bundle type (horizontal, angled top, etc.), operating pressure and temperature, finned tube type and specifications, tube box type, tube bundle length and width, number of tube rows, and number of tube passes. Each tube bundle should be selected based on the above parameters.

Fin fan coolers include dry, wet, and combined dry-wet types. Dry air coolers are the basic type, while wet and combined dry-wet types are their developments. Air coolers are classified by ventilation method as either forced draft or induced draft.

Wet air coolers and combined air coolers are suitable for process fluids with relatively low final cooling temperatures (approximately 5°C above the atmospheric wet-bulb temperature).

Wet air coolers use SL-type tube bundles on both sides for wet operation, condensing and cooling the medium. The operating temperature is approximately 70°C. Combined coolers operate in a combined dry and wet configuration; the upper part uses SX-type tube bundles at an angle for dry operation, condensing the medium, while the lower part uses SL-type tube bundles vertically for wet operation. The boundary temperature between dry and wet cooling is approximately 70°C.

Dry air coolers can be classified as horizontal, inclined-top, horizontal-vertical, and vertical types.

Wet air coolers can be classified into horizontal, vertical, and inclined types, etc.
